The exhibition of innovative student IT projects "ENU AI-Sana EXPO - 2.0" was held at ENU

As part of the AI-Sana program and the Digital Nauryz concept, the second national exhibition of innovative student IT projects, "ENU AI-Sana EXPO - 2.0," was held at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. During the event, students from Kazakhstani universities presented over 30 digital solutions in healthcare, education, inclusion, culture, ecology, sociology, and robotics.
The event was attended by Dinara Shcheglova, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Arai Urazova, First Deputy Director General of the Digital Government Support Center; Yerlan Sydykov, Rector of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University; Gulmira Bekmanova, Vice Rector for Digitalization at ENU; as well as scientists and students.
"One of the strategic goals of the Head of State is the digital transformation of Kazakhstan. Its implementation is impossible without the highly qualified specialists trained by universities. In this regard, increasing young people's interest in artificial intelligence technologies is particularly important. This exhibition is aimed at developing digital solutions in education and strengthening inter-university cooperation," ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov noted in his speech.
In her welcoming speech, Vice Minister Dinara Scheglova emphasized that many projects from last year's ENU AI-Sana EXPO were recognized at the government and international levels and are already generating revenue.
"You are implementing projects not only for the university, but also for various sectors of the economy, thereby contributing to their development. This is your contribution to the future of the country. Today, these may be startups, but this is how large-scale projects emerge that eventually grow into transnational companies. This is how Google and Duolingo were born. I wish you innovative and creative ideas," the speaker addressed the students.
The exhibition featured projects by students from the Eurasian National University, Turan-Astana University, M. Kozybayev Saratov State University, and M. Gumilyov Atyrau University. H. Dosmukhamedov.
Following the exhibition, the competition jury selected the best projects, whose authors were awarded diplomas and valuable gifts from the event's sponsors, Lenovo and Platonus.
One of the best projects was by ENU students Arman Lyayliev and Zhaniya Zhumal. They developed a system that uses computer vision to identify plastic objects in waste streams. The model analyzes camera images and determines the presence of plastic in real time for subsequent sorting using the RIC system.
An AI project by student Yernur Zholaushy, using an AI model trained using machine learning methods to recognize handwritten Kazakh text, attracted particular interest. According to the author, the project developed a web service with a serverless architecture designed for highly accurate handwritten text recognition in Kazakh, Russian, and English.
The following projects took first place in the competition:
"Luban Robotic Manipulator for Detecting Plastic from Waste" by Arman Lyayliev and Zhaniya Zhumal;
"Development of a Navigation Assistant for the Visually Impaired" by Aruzhan Tazhibay;
"SUNKAR AI" - a platform that transforms ordinary gadgets and UAVs into high-precision target detection systems based on the Software-Defined Defense principle" - Bolat Abdulaziz;
